tales from the beneath

The dark oxygen of Brazilian literature. Three books. Thirty years. A single descent — into and through the inside of yourself.

A series by Rodrigo Sartori

Thirty years of descent

A body of work that began in 1996
and still demands to be heard.

In 1996, Rodrigo Sartori was twenty years old and brave enough to publish a book of short stories he had been writing since nineteen — mixing science fiction, magical realism, ironic humor, and the obstinate moral question: how far can the soul bend before it breaks? That book became a quiet classic of Brazilian speculative fiction.

Three decades later, the series returns: the first book expanded, a second book crossing the line between the human and the inhuman, and a third book — still in 2026 — already shaping up as the darkest of them all. The question is the same. The descent, deeper.

The dark oxygen
of Brazilian literature.

30-year commemorative edition

First published in 1996, this collection marked the author's debut with narratives moving between technology, death, mystery and moral provocation. The anniversary edition keeps every original story and adds Just Another Day — a new piece written exclusively for this release: a detective in Medellín, 1986, walking through devastating grief and the clutches of a manipulative philosophical sect — toward an ending no one sees coming.

Between the human and the inhuman, Tales from the Beneath II gathers nine more stories that cross the borders of consciousness, solitude and faith. From distant futures to interior cellars, each narrative investigates the instant the mind wakes up inside the matter — and discovers the pain of existing. Portrait of Rodrigo Sartori.

From Curitiba. From Brazil. Writing speculative fiction since the age of nineteen.

Published Tales from the Beneath in 1996, at twenty. Three decades later, the work returned expanded as a commemorative edition, alongside a second volume that extends the series along the dark sci-fi frontier.

In 2026 he reaches the third volume of the project.

Sartori lives between the academic craft and literature — still convinced that the best Brazilian fiction lives on the underside of the page.
